100 Days Of The King - Day 84

This character is named Ramses (or "Black Ramses"). Fashioned at the same time that Kirby was creating his New Gods and inked by Don Heck, this particular design never made the cut, but I've always wanted to see more of this fascinating character.  Kurt Busiek used him in some Kirby-inspired work some years ago, but I don't have much recollection of those.

  1. I like it. I especially like the color schemes on this one. Did Don Heck ink this one? I ask because it looks like one of Kirby's watercolors.

    1. I'm pretty sure that Heck's inking; it looks like it to me.

  2. I can't help but wonder if Kirby was thinking of another of his creations, Prester John, when he created Ramses. That object he's holding certainly bears a resemblance to the Evil Eye.

    1. I almost included an image of Prester John with this one because I had the same notion.
