The photo above is the notorious Dr.Frederic Wertham, author of Seduction of the Innocent, the 50's tome about comics that brought about the birth of the Comics Code and vilified the comic book in America. He's reading a comic, actually a magazine-size offering from EC Comics titled Shock Illustrated. This short-lived title and its mate Terror Illustrated were upscale comics, sort of a cross between classic comic book format and magazine illustration.
I just find it odd that Wertham of all people would have a photo taken reading a comic. It's a weird irony, almost worthy of an EC story ending.
